If any of these things mean anything to you that means you must live on-campus at Newcastle uni! Living on on-campus we are privileged to be exposed to the most unique uni experience that is available. If you are one of the 1000 people I’m your girl to call if you feel like you need to be heard within the Uni.

My name is Rowena Hoad and I’m the 2006 Student Residences representative on the NUSA council. I have been a resident of Edwards Hall for a while and have done many things within the on-campus community.

For all of you who don’t know where we are, all the Colleges are located East of the Hunter building they include Evatt House, International House (IH), Edwards Hall (Teds) and Barahineban (BARA). This is the first time that this position has been filled for the last couple of years. On top of promoting NUSA amongst the on-campus community here are a few ideas I have;

  • I believe that we should bulldoze the swamp behind Teds and Evatt and turn it into a massive waterslide so all Evatt people need to do is slide down the hill to visit teds people.

  • Turn that terrible path up the Hill past the tennis and B’ball courts into an escalator. It’s so hard to run up there trying get an assignment in on-time whilst hangover.

  • We need a mini-bus service to take us to class. I suggest the pick up points to be outside the Bara front door, then down to the teds front office, then up to the IH Dining Hall then around to Evatt car park. These should run every 30 minutes (just so we aren’t late for class).

  • I would like to see air conditioning put in all rooms!

In all seriousness we pay so much to live on-campus and we need a voice! The VSU is going to take away so much and I don’t feel that we will miss it till it’s gone which is disappointing. I also aim to promote NUSA throughout the Colleges. Also with al the staffing changes I will be keeping an eye out for all Colleges with the new structure that is in place.

A big cheer goes out to the ICC, IMA, ERA and RMA committee members good luck with the up-coming year!

Rowena
