Heya kids! How are we all?

Its Ben here, one of your two fabo queer conveners with yet another queer report, and boi do I have a report for ya’ll.

For starters we have two HUGE events coming up very soon. The first event is our annual Qparty! This years theme is carnivale’ and will be held at the Croatian club on Albert street Wickham. We’ll have the band Cimatree, DJ Ash, jugglers, fire twirlers, face painters, raffles and a lot of other fun carnivale’ themed shenanigans. The event is $10 or $7 concession and all profits go towards sending the collective to our next big event….

Queer Collaborations! The annual queer conference has finally made its way to Sydney this year, which makes it a hell of a lot cheaper to send the gang down. But with good old fuckin VSU we have practically no funds, thusly the fundraising Qparty. The theme for this years QC is terror alert rainbow, which is a play on the American terror alert system. The conference is going to focus on many issues ranging from war, queer refugees, wemyns, trans, bi and intersex visibility and just general queer rights… or should I say lack there of… Keep your hands off my civil union rights Howard!

Now onto something a little less positive. Over the last week I’m afraid to say that there have been quite a number of overtly homophobic acts on campus. Now I’m sure we’re all used to the queers yelling “homophobia this homophobia that” but the sad fact is, its happening! So I’m asking everyone, if you see someone being a dick and picking on someone, say something and let them know its not on. And don’t limit your support to just one group, if anyone is discriminating against someone for ANY reason tell them to fucking grow up. No one should have to live in fear of being singled out for any reason, especially at a university! We’re all meant to be enlightened people, so let’s bloody start acting like it!

And now that’s my rant over with. So people if anyone wants to get involved in the collective in any way we have our weekly Monday meetings at 1-2 in the queer space at NUSA. Followed by our Monday night social events at bar on the hill from around anytime after 4. I hope to see lots of new faces at both the normal events and at the Qparty!
